Drainage Law

Drainage law principally involves representation of drainage districts which are organized for the purpose of draining rural and urban lands. The representation includes appointment and election of commissioners for the drainage districts and levying assessments to pay for drainage district projects.

Drainage law also involves representing individuals in obtaining drainage relief for real estate including litigated matters.

Craig & Craig, LLC has been actively involved in drainage law for many years, including assisting in codification of drainage statutes in the 1950s.

Robert G. Grierson, Member at the Mattoon office of the firm, has been actively involved in drainage law for more than 30 years with the Firm, and is presently counsel for more than 80 drainage districts in the Central Illinois area. In addition, Mattoon Member, John L. Barger, has been actively involved in drainage law.
